Course Offerings

Welcome to Summer Place 2021. Below you will find a wide selection of enrichment and recreational options for your camper. Your camper will choose 1 class for each weekly session. Their cohort of campers (15 max), 2 counselors and 1 faculty member will remain together for the entire week. Daily activities will be fluid, and will revolve around the class theme. There will be ample time allowed for mask breaks, bathroom breaks, handwashing, etc.. The day will also include outside time, plenty of games, and time for lunch at the end of each day. 2021 will provide your camper with the same joyful Summer Place experience as in the past!


Acting Out
Grades 1-4, Weeks 2 and 4 Grades 5-9, Weeks 1 and 3

Get physical and create theater in a fun and unique way! Learn how to pretend punch, kick, and pull your best friend's hair (in a completely safe way) with some on stage combat! Learn the basics of improvisation and create a theatre scene that is completely original. We will go over the basics of clowning, and how to act with our bodies, not our voices! Everything in this class is physical, fun, and engaging for all age groups. Clowning around is encouraged!

Challenge Accepted
Grades 1–2, Weeks 1 and 4 Grades 3–4, Weeks 2 and 5 Grades 5–9, Weeks 3 and 6

Get ready to be challenged! Compete in challenges like Minute to Win it, scavenger hunts, escape rooms, Rube Goldberg contraptions, Rubix cubes, puzzles, and even Dude Perfect challenges. Take your problem solving to fun new levels. Think you can crush these competitions and be the top team? Question is, are you in it to win it?

Chef Academy
Grades 1–4, Weeks 1, 3, 5 Grades 5–9, Weeks 2, 4, 6

Join this kitchen crew as we safely master basic kitchen skills—all while having fun in a real kitchen! Learn to whip up yummy appetizers, refreshing beverages, mouth-watering soups, and both savory and sweet entrees. Don’t worry, of course we’ll also concoct fun snacks and delicious dessert treats! From planning recipes to working together to prep, cook, bake, and clean, chefs in training will leave with a cookbook full of delectable new recipes to replicate with their family.

Creative Crew
Grades 1–2, Weeks 1-6 Grades 3–4, Weeks 1-6 Grades 5–9, Weeks 1-6

Join this creative crew as we explore popular arts like clay creations, tie dye, splatter paint, mosaic masterpieces, paint, digital art, and more. Every day, you’ll create masterpieces as you explore colors, textures, 2D and 3D art on paper, cloth, iPads, and more! Get psyched to let your imagination run wild as you design, create, and produce amazing works of art!

Fandoms Unite
Grades 5–9, Weeks 5 and 6

Where can you wield a lightsaber, collect all the Infinity Stones, and ride a broom like Harry Potter? Only in Fandoms Unite! Become an Avenger, Jedi, and Wizard in this class of serious fanatics. We will delve into the worlds of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Harry Potter—all in one fantastic week!

Fantasy Fighting
Grades 5–9, Weeks 1 and 2

Are you ready to take on the Orcs at the Battle of Helm’s Deep? How about a Demogorgon? In Fantasy Fighting, we will take the battle onto the field with swords and shields (all camp safe!) and with the 20-sided dice on the game table! If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings, Dungeons and Dragons, or just Fantasy in general...come join us to protect the Summer Place realm!

Flight School
Grades 3–4, Weeks 1, 3, 5 Grades 5–9, Weeks 2, 4, 6

Does aerodynamics fascinate you? It’ll be up, up, and away as you experiment with different types of paper airplanes, balloons, drones, parachutes, kites, rockets, and more! Learn how design, size, shape, air resistance, friction, and gravity affect flight. What goes up must come down, right?

Move and Groove with Arthur Murray Dance Studio:
Grades 1–4, Weeks 1, 2, 4, 5 Grades 5–9, Weeks 3 and 6

Arthur Murray Dance Studio has been teaching the world to dance for over 100 years, and we want you to join us for a fun and easy introduction to music and dance. The class teaches rhythm and timing with dance and creative movement. You will learn basic dance skills through movement and musical games, and also develop your creative interpretation skills. Be introduced to popular social dances as well as more traditional dances such as the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Salsa, Rumba, Cha Cha, Hustle, and more. Dancing is about more than the step—it’s also a powerful tool for many important long-term life skills! Besides having tons of fun, you will develop self-confidence; build a sense of discipline; nurture your artistic and creative abilities; be active and healthy in a fun and safe environment; enhance your coordination and agility; and learn social graces and etiquette.

Nature’s Playground
Grades 1–2, Weeks 1-6 Grades 3–4, Weeks 1-6

Are you ready to enjoy the excitement and fun of nature in the world around us? Follow along as we hike trails, build shelters, and tie tricky knots. We will explore water, mud, plants, as well as tiny insects and other sneaky creatures living on campus. You’ll get to dig, build, balance, splash, and play as we explore the playground of nature!

Science Fair Fanatics
Grades 1–4, Weeks 2, 4, 6 Grades 5–9, Weeks 1, 3, 5

Do you love doing hands-on experiments? Do you like to build and create? In this class, we will design experiments like scientists and conquer design challenges like engineers! Using creativity and problem solving, we will plan, test, and analyze a variety of fascinating investigations. Be a science fanatic and join us on this extraordinary adventure!

SP Builders
Grades 1–2, Weeks1-6 Grades 3–4, Weeks1-6

Are you loco for LEGOS? Do you enjoy building challenges using big and small materials? Well, we’re calling all creative kids, LEGO fanatics, and future architects! Come and compete in building challenges as we take exciting journeys to plan, gather resources, and round up supplies so we can execute incredible scenes, sculptures, balancing feats, and more!

Spa Days
Grades 1–2, Weeks1-6 Grades 3–4, Weeks1-6 Grades 5–9, Weeks1-6

Create, play games, and have a great times with good friends—what could be better? Start by pampering yourself using common ingredients found right in your kitchen. Relax by making and using custom healthy spa treatments, run your hands through unicorn slime, decorate textiles, and create your own jewelry and friendship bracelets. Take a morning tea break while decorating scrumptious cookies to enjoy and play giggle-worthy games. You can even become a fashionista with your own designs to model during this fashion and relaxation week. RSVP “yes” to attend Spa Days!

STEM Academy
Grades 3–4, Weeks1-6 Grades 5–9, Weeks1-6

Do you want to explore the world of science, engage in the sparks of technology, build a greater understanding of engineering, and stretch your brain challenges involving math? You will explore such explore topics such as coding and robotics. The world of tech is in your hands. Join us on our quest for knowledge while we create, build, transform, and investigate all things STEM!

Strategy Games
Grades 3–4, Weeks 2, 4, 6 Grades 5–9, Weks 1, 3, 5

Chess, Minecraft, brain teasers, puzzles, and more! Take on personal challenges and team games to outwit and succeed in lots of different strategy games. Hone your skills and learn new techniques to up your game. Ready, player one?

Summer Place Theater
Grades 1–4, Weeks 1, 3, 5 Grades 5–9, Weeks 2, 4, 6

We invite you to be a star on our stage! Using a variety of techniques, materials, and props, we’ll transform ourselves and our space, all while laughing and having a blast together. Develop your dramatic imagination and communication skills as you explore the building blocks of theater. We will experiment with fundamental acting and character-building techniques as we explore themes and scenes that will allow your creativity to flourish. Explore how to bring a script to life from the page to the stage!

Whimsical Adventures
Grades 1–4, Weeks 3 and 4

Would you like to search for fairies, create your own wings, attend fancy tea parties, and make your own Olaf from Frozen to join in the fun? In Whimsical Adventures, you will enjoy such activities as creating a house for fairies, painting tea cups, and making a crown royalty would be proud to wear. Like Anna, you'll get to “stuff some chocolate in your face!

Wilderness Survival
Grades 5–9, Weeks 1-6

What would you do if you were lost in the woods? This hands-on class will teach you to appreciate the challenge of survival without the comforts of home. Learn to build a weatherproof shelter; build, start, and maintain a fire that you can cook on; tie knots; and how to best utilize the materials in our forest. You’ll also learn how not to get lost—and what to do if you do!

Woodworking 101
Grades 1–4, Weeks 2, 4, 6 Grades 5–9, Weeks 1, 3, 5

Use your mind, muscle, and creativity as you design and build your very own creations. With plenty of supervision, you will learn safe and effective ways of using hammers, saws, sanders, drills, and other hand tools. Gain new skills and confidence while having lots of fun! Both beginning and experienced woodworkers are welcome!

Sports Classes

Sport Pals
Grades 1–2, Weeks 1-6

A fun-filled sports option that includes a variety of outdoor and indoor recreational activities, games, read-alouds, and time for lunch at the end of the camp day. You will run, jump, and move your bodies while engaged in both sports and interactive games. You will thrive in a nurturing environment for the entire week while being introduced to an assortment of individual and team sports. Instructors will assess campers and plan appropriate activities based on skill levels. Come pal around with us!

Sports at Summer Place
Grades 3–4, Weeks 1-6 Grades 5–6, Weeks 1-6 Grades 7–9, Weeks 1-6

An energy packed camp for sports fans of all abilities! This sports-minded camp allows you to run, jump, throw, kick, and catch as you explore a variety of sports. Fill your week with team sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, field hockey, flag football, and kickball; and individual sports such as tennis, frisbee, fitness training, and yard games. Instructors will assess campers and plan appropriate activities based on skill levels. A day of Sports at Summer Place consists of a multitude of planned athletic activities outdoors and indoors, as well as frequent mask breaks, games, and time for lunch at the end of the camp day.
